PRE is a 32-bit application so at best it will only really be capable of using around 3.5GB. Is that 1TB drive the only drive? How much defragmented space is on it? I know it is a 32 bit , about 850GB , I know i should have 2 drives but, we tried that with a Pentium 4 with hyper-threading, really not much advantage, it still ran the H.264 mov files a bit slowly , but, still works if needed to Adobe PP Specs with HDV/mpeg-2 but, not H.264 without transcoding to avi.

Work through these basics to see if it cures your problems.

•Install all Windows Updates. DONE IT

•Install latest version of Apple QuickTime (v7.6.9 at time of writing). Even if you don’t use QuickTime, PRE relies heavily on it. DONE IT

•Install most recent graphics and sound drivers from the manufacturers web sites. DONE IT
    •Install PRE9 v9.0.1 update. N/A
    •Delete BadDrivers.txt (in Windows 7 this is likely at C:\ProgramData\Adobe\Premiere Elements\9.0\BadDrivers.txt) DITTO
    •Run Disk Cleanup. ALWAYS
    •Run Defragmenter.ALWAYS
    •Reboot your PC.OF COURSE
•Temporarily disable any anti-virus realtime scanning. ALLTHE TIME

And give us some information about your clips and hardware:

•Use the GSpot Codec Information Utility to analyse the file and post screen image.N/A
    •What project preset did you use? 1920 x 1080 PAL @25fps
•Where did the clip come from? Canon EOS 5 D mark II which we have used for 2 years
•How did you get it into PRE? USB. 2
•Post back here with the necessary information described here: Got a Problem? How to Get Started

    Hi Neale,

It is not as if we are going to let a little thing like “out of memory” stop us, but, it is only fixed by not exceeding 4GBs at any one time. We still go to Pro tape for archive and Export to Blu-ray very succesfully including downsize to SD Widescreen 16:9 DVD in Premiere pro with minor work using PE to transcode H.264mov to HDV/mpeg-2 which suits our work process.

Tell me I should get CS5 and I agree,I will buy it in June when we come back from Turkey, Hungary and the Greek Islands. I still use PE 4 but, why does PE 9 not behave itself ?

Thanks for your interest., I thought “Running out of memory” would be any easy solve ? We run a i7 Quad Core 64 bit with a Nvidia Quadro FX3800 and 1TB Hard drive with 12GB RAM, we definitely do not run out of memory.

Ps My son is insane , he runs a MAC and only iMovie to handle H.264 not Final Cut Pro, it does not match his requirements, but i think i am going “mad

” you have got to be in this industry.

NOTE: THIS HAS PARTIALLY BEEN SOLVED BY RUNNING THE COMPUTER ON RESTRICTED START UP, I know I am asking too much of a 3 year old piece of software, but, from all reports the problem still exists with PE 9 ?

Is this the problem ? This is a copy of a technical request to Adobe Forums : Premiere Elements.

Error message in Premiere Elements 4 to 9 “Running short on Memory”When you get the error message ” RUNNING SHORT ON MEMORY” save your work > in Premiere Elements while editing with H.264 mov files in excess of 1GB is it related to the Microsoft Operating System Limit of 4GB and 2GB performance of the program to 2GB ? ”

And, is that the answer ? Ie., is it the limitations of the 32 bit software and operating syatem ?
