apologies if theres a post regarding this already i tried to search but couldnt find anything relevant..

I’m runnig CS6 on osx, and got far down the line with editing an ever changing video due to voiceover and music changing constantly.. hey ho..
Ive done the basic edit in premiere and dynamic linked some segments i created from scratch in AE,
Works ok though my poor MBP is struggling with some of the effects and changes im doing, however down to the question….

i got into the habit of saving multiple versions of projects in FCP, my previous NLE of choice.
in that scenario though i was rendering out ‘closed’ MOV files from AE and dropping those into FCP, so as the projects progressed i would end up with edit v5.fcp and motiongfx v5.aep.
all good, but faffy having to render everything out all the time.

CS6 and dynamic link works ok , maybe slower as premiere has to cope with my linked creations, however when i get to edit v3.prproj and i also want to make motiongfx v2.aep containing the relavent linked files,

Is there a way to update the AE project that premiere is dynamic linking into??
the replace clip is greyed out and i cant seem to find a way to do this.

theres plenty of stuff on navigating back to the original source clip in premiere- useless as i started from a black slug.
or even replacing dynamic linked with a separate standalone clip – would work but that kicks me back to ‘the render out every change from AE’ every time i change something.

Importing the ae project loads it in, NOT setting up a dynamic link.

anyone else noticed / bothered by this?
or am i being a noob to Prem and AE and i should have a better workflow?

(‘spose i could duplicate and then rename the .AEP in finder outside of either program, but that seems a little silly)
