If the audio is embedded in the videofile the answer is no.
If you do not want the audio just mute or delete (hold ALT) in the timeline.
If the avi is sd footage from a camera you can capture it with only the video on, but i assume its HD?

    Thanks Ann,

I’m having problems with MTS (AVC) files and I thought about importing only the video instead of converting all audio clips.
