  • Premiere CS5 uses 97% RAM when conforming audio

I am having trouble with using an XDCAM clip in Premiere CS5. When I access the clip Premiere starts conforming the audio but it slowed the maxhine right down to a crawl. I have 6GB RAM and have set the RAM usage in Premiere to 4GB leaving 2GB for the system. But on first acces to the XDCAM clip Premiere starts conformaing and the RAM usage ramps up over 10 seconds. It does not limit to 4GB and maxes out at 97% total RAM usage so the system grinds to a halt.

    Anyone having similar trouble?

    Cheers

I’m not – but could you give us the major details of your machine:
    CPU(s), motherboard, drive connection & speed…

Yeah, I have the same problem. Anytime I import large folders the conforming takes for ever and slows system down to a crawl. Keep getting low memory warnings. Actually had the same problems with CS3. I think I’m about done with Adobe. So much money and time, and the pos program is still mostly unusable. Who are these idiots that are always claiming the Premiere is rock solid now? Amazing.

I did find a solution in upgrading to CS5.5 which fixed the problem. It is possible 5.0 updates might fix it too but didn’t try that.

I can confirm that with 5.5 conforming audio is quick and does not max out the memory.

    Cheers
