So I was having this same problem when exporting to an h.264 file. I was trying tweaks with small sections of the video and it always played back smoothly, but when I did the entire video it was choppy. I am not sure if this will help in your case, but I found that when selecting what to export, if I started one-hundredth of a second after the beginning and ended one-hundredth of a second before the end in a custom selection, my playback was smooth. I have no idea why or how this works, but it may solve the problems some of you are having.

    Good luck!

Hooray … Finally found this thread after Googling for days – someone else is having the same problem as me in PP6! (Rendering to DVD PAL widescreen 720×576)
I have various computers, lots of footage and each time I render I get different freeze points.
Typically in a 3 minute video, I’ll get 2 or 3 dropped frames, and also an occasional single frame with bad noise.
Shooting from DSLR Canon 70D (25FPS), 650D (25FPS) and GoPro Hero 3 (30 FPS) on a 3-camera shoot. All in HD but mixing down to mpeg2 DVD 720×576 25p
And yes – I’m playing in WM player.

I’m about to try PP CS4…and the render high and re-render in AME…
    Here’s hoping…

OK – rendered H264 in HD 25 (looks good, incredibly small file) now loading into PP-CS4…

I have a similar issue, with me what happens is that the videos plays perfectly fine in windows media player but in adobe and after editing it becomes choppy and skips some of the sound. Even the sound is heard before the videos reaches the correct point of the sound
