These videos are h.264. I have a machine with a Q6600, 4 GB of ram and a slightly older video card, a 7600 GT.

When playing the files directly by plopping the file from the library to the source preview window, they play wonderfully. I can play them in high quality. When I put a clip from the timeline in, then they are very laggy for the first 5-15 seconds in draft/automatic quality, depending on how long the clip is, before playing with no lag. This is quite annoying. According to the task manager, even while it is being laggy the program only takes anywhere between 25%-50% of my CPU speed, with the rest being idle. Anyone know why this happens and how I can fix it? None of these clips have any effects applied to them. Thanks!

Ah, thank you, using that troubleshooting page I’ve fixed my problem 🙂 I apologize for not doing so sooner.

I tried a few things, but mainly, the files were on an external hard drive. I think copying them over to the disk was what did it.
