I downloaded and installed Adobe Premiere CS3 and then proceeded to copy/paste all the required files to allow the Decklink functionability. Seems it all works as per PPro 2. An hour later got onto my local Apple store and ordered FCP 6 upgrade. But that was not related to Premiere; just thought you should know I swing both ways nowdays!

    Hi Baz,

Thanks for letting us know and that’s good news as the DeckLink 6.1 for Mac OS X drivers don’t have any specific support for Premiere Pro for Mac OS X but they do seem to work well. Naturally we shall include specific driver support for Premiere Pro on Mac OS X once it has been released.

    Hi Baz,

Why not try installing bootcamp on your Macpro/Decklink Station and install WIndows XP? Wouldn’t it be cool to be able to boot up to either PremiereProCS3/Windows or MacOS/FCP on one machine? hehe

    Hey Adrian

Yes I think it would be nice but my mac is a powerPC not intel and I don’t think it would work. And besides, the mac is my only respite from Bill Gates and his buggy software; I go there when I have cussed too many times!

Now I can add that I am a little impressed with CS3 and a BMD SD project.

I created a sequence with 4 uncompressed 10 bit avi’s on top of each other using motion to create a quad split (each had a frame size of 50%).

The whole lot played real time without a hiccup. Then I added number 5 and centered it. That was too much and started studdering so obviously 4 was the max on my system.

So I copied and pasted the clips into a PPro 2 timeline (yes, both apps opened at the same time!) and the best I got was only 1 clip with the motion filter to play. So it seems the CS3 playback engine has been optimised.

I also created a 1 min 50 sec multilayer dual track motion key sequence that played in real time unrendered. That was…

    1 layer base vision avi
1 layer fill vision A avi
1 layer fill vision A matte shape avi
1 layer fill vision B avi
1 layer fill vision B matte shape avi

I then copied the whole sequence into PPro 2 and it didn’t stand a chance of playing realtime.

So as a final test for PPro 2 I rendered it and it took 3 mins 21 secs.

In CS3 it took 2 mins 57 secs.

It should be noted that I am not sure if the installation of CS3 affected PPro2’s performance in anyway.

    System tested was…
    Multibridge extreme
    Tyan Thunder K8WE 2 x dual core 275 opteron
    4G DDR
    Quadro FX540 PCI Express
    Areca RC1220 8 Port SATA Raid card driving 8 x 300g drives;

This is great news Baz. I’ll try the CS3 beta on our BMD stations on Monday and see if I come up with the same results.
