I just captured a video that was one hour long, and the capture settings are at DV quality.
Well the data rate is something like 235mbs! And the file is 95gb.

According the AJA data rate calculator (I know the general size it should be, but crunched it anyway) says the file size should be somewhere around 14gb.

    My sequence settings are DV.

    What are we doing wrong?

    Hi Aaron,

A lot more info needed please –

    Mac or PC?

    Capture card used?

    Source video format?

    NLE software?

While it is true that “DV” video natively uses about 13GB per hour, that is when captured as DV using a 1394 Firewire cable. If you are coming into a capture card via analog or HDMI or something, then the capture format is usually something other than “DV”, whether compressed or uncompressed.

Can you provide a screen grab of the capture interface showing the capture settings?

    Thank you
