Premiere AAF generates funky filenames in ProTools – thoughts?
Hey all – first time poster, long time reader.
I just finished work on a 5 minute animated short. Duties included picture editing, sound design, and getting the film onto the mix stage (ProTools) and into the colour grade (Resolve). Relatively smooth sailing but one little technical glitch has left me confused and curious:
When the mixers opened up the AAF in ProTools, we discovered that left channels of all my audio clips had been renamed. Stranger still, renamed to that of random video clips in my timeline! And no, ALL audio clip were independent of the footage and were never linked in Premiere.
Here’s my workflow:
1. Prepared timeline, organizing it by DX, FX, MX. All sound was in stereo with the exception of dialogue, which was mono.
2. Exported an AAF out of Premiere (see Image A)
3. Imported into ProTools (see Image B)Image A – my AAF export settings, as per my mixers’ recommendations:
Image B – What we saw in ProTools (Please not that there were a few exceptions where the right channel was renamed instead of left).
Should I have not broken it down to mono? Is there something wrong that i did in my track mappings in Premiere? Does Adobe AAF just suck?
