Premiere 6.0 project to Nero for DVD
I can’t seem to get my completed Premiere 6.0 project into my Nero 6.0 program for burning DVDs. Can someone help me here? Does Nero not recognize Premiere’s output format? What other options can you suggest?

Make sure that you’re not trying to use the Premiere project file (.ppj). That file is only the data Premiere uses for editing, there’s no actual video in it.
You should be able to export your movie as an AVI file, which I think (don’t know, I don’t use Nero) Nero will recognize. You might want to check what file formats Nero supports. It’s possible it may only take MPEG files, in which case you’ll either need a converter, a plug-in, or a newer version of Premiere (any of the three will work).

Tim, thanks for the response. When I “save as”, the only option in the save dialog box is the .ppj format.

You don’t use Save to create an AVI from Premiere. Use File > Export > Movie.

Thanks, Tim. Just as you said, I saved an avi file in that method.
Curiously, and not as a by-product of my attempts to save a file, the timeline refuses to “play.” I close out Premiere and reopen it and again attempt to play a timeline project, but no luck. I’ve even rebooted, but to no avail. Any thoughts?

Well, define “play” for me. Are you pressing space bar, enter, or hitting the play button in the monitor? Does a new project work?

By play, I mean pressing the space bar, pressing the arrow in the monitor window – the timeline does not move; even doing both to a clip, the clip does not play.
Even when importing an .avi clip into a new project, the clip will not play. When moving that clip to the timeline and pressing the space bar or play arrow, it does not play.

Do you by any chance keep your DV camera or converter connected to your computer? The Playback settings in Premiere can be set to only play through the DV device, so you might want to check that out.
Otherwise it sounds like it might be time to reset Premiere’s preferences, or to reinstall it.

The minute I turned on my DV deck, it all worked. I was able to play, etc.
It seems such a simple solution, who’d a thunk it. Thanks very much. Is there another option so I don’t always have to have my deck and NTSC monitor on?

Go into the Project Settings > General, hit playback settings, and you can control there where and how Premiere previews the timeline.
