  • Premiere 2.0 Hangs when selecting the start new project option?

Posted by Superal on September 13, 2006 at 9:57 am

    Hi Guys

I have installed Adobe CS Production Studio Premium on one of our computers.
All programmes run fine except Premiere Pro 2.0 which hangs everytime I want to Open New Project. This didnt happen before, only recently. When opening an old project it runs fine which is really odd.
I have tried a reinstall but this has not solved the problem.
    Any Ideas Please?

    Thanks

[Superal] “I want to Open New Project. This didnt happen before, only recently.”

Open a project or create a new project? If its the latter, what type of project are you trying to create? (specifications)

Its for one of my design guys, when he starts up Premiere it pops up with a dialog box with New Project, Open Project, Help.

Open Project and Help work fine. When New Project is clicked it just hangs and doesn’t respond, We work on PC here btw.

    cheers

Do you have any other project settings from third parties? (CineForm, AJA, Matrox, etc…)

Otherwise I’d say try to dump the preferences on startup…if that doesn’t work, try a reinstall of PPro.

    Thanks for the replies,

There are no settings from third parties interfering that I can see, I have done a reinstall of just PPro2 (from the CS Production Studio Premium bundle)already which didn’t work.

How do I ‘dump the preferences on startup’?

Is there any way you can tell if other apps may be affecting PPro even though they aren’t running?

    Cheers.

Delete this file; (with Pro closed)

    C:\Documents and settings\Mike\Application Data\Adobe\Premiere Pro\2.0\Adobe Premiere Pro Prefs.

Thanks for the quick reply Mike!

This didn’t work, unfortunately. PPro2 is part of the CS Production Studio Premium bundle, I don’t know if this makes any difference?

Reinstalling the whole suite is not an option at this point because we’re in the middle of a project. As mentioned previously We already tried reinstalling just PPro2 but to no avail!

    Any other suggestions highly welcomed.

    Thanks in advance.

    A possible workaround;
Open an existing project, “save as” your new project. Delete all project window files and timeline clips and start new project.
