I have been dealing with a big film project where every now and then (for months) my audio would start to garble then my computer would lock up completely frozen. Everyone kepts telling me go update nvidia geforece 285 driver. When I did that I would get more lock ups and a message, Open GL driver has to close error code 3.
Now there is alot of chatter about a fix in registry that I did not try because the links I saw did not look like my registry when opened to do the fix, so I waited and talked to our tech guy and he made a suggestion that appears to have worked for now….(Here is that registry link….https://mymce.wordpress.com/2012/07/28/the-nvidia-opengl-driver-lost-connection-with-the-display-driver-due-to-exceeding-the-windows-time-out-limit/……)

His suggestion was this….Completely uninstall the nvidia drivers…and run driver sweeper from driversweeper.com to clean all elements of nvidia out of registry. (this is a little creepy cause you lose your graphics settings in the middle of it) then do the install of the latest driver and CUSTOM INSTALL only checking the boxes needed. Make sure to remove all driver files including registry settings when installing or updating video drivers. Choose custom install on the nvidia menu and only select the components that are necessary, such as the graphics driver and PhysX. Don’t install the 3d drivers if you’re not going to utilize the 3d function.

It has been working smoothly for 24 hours…We’ll see.
This has been an issue for me for over 10 months.

    Nope no way….Locked again

Nvidia Open GL driver detected a problem with display driver and is unable to continue. Application must close…..Error code 3.

I will never get this film completed……

Any way you could get something like a GTX-660Ti? Not that expensive and works well with CS6 (after updating the “cuda_supported_cards.txt” file).

Please send me the specs of what it is and confirm the Mercury Playback compatibiilty.
I am going to negotiate a new card from Polywell later today…..
    Thanks

    Specs:

    https://www.geforce.com/hardware/desktop-gpus/geforce-gtx-660ti/specifications

MPE and GPU acceleration in Pr CS6, with instructions how to enable it:

If you prefer not to deal with editing a text file to enable GPU acceleration, a GTX-670 is Adobe-approved for CS6 and is roughly $100 more than the 660 Ti.

IS the GXT 670 better than my geforce285 card?
One site called mine an “end of life” card, does that mean its good or extinct?

[Charles Cunliffe] “670 is not on the list….will it work without tweeking?”

My bad! 680 is. Weird – because 670 is faster than a 570, which is on the list.

You’d still need a tweak for the 670 – which means 660 Ti is still as good an option as a 670.

I’d go for the 660 Ti if I were you.

Much better: runs faster, cooler, doesn’t have the issues lots of people are experiencing with the new GeForce 306 driver and GTX-285.

    Extinct. 🙂
