  • Premier Pro CS5.5 Render Times (computer built for it)

Posted by Patrick Merrick on October 18, 2011 at 5:57 pm

    Hey guys,

Just a question about render times in Premier Pro. First of, my system:

    Windows 7 64bit
    2 Xeon X5680 3.33GHz CPU (12cores & hyper threading)
    24GB Ram
Nvidia Quadro 4000 2GB video card

I built the computer for After Effects and Premier Pro rendering and After Effects speeds through the render just fine. I just started rendering a 5min 1080p video clip in PPro and its taking about 30min to do it. The thing is.. I applied a lighting effect to compensate for low light in the video. So my question is. Is this an acceptable time to expect for a 5min video? Or am I doing something wrong?

    Thanks!

I built an i5 just for Adobe Production Suite 5.5 and a 10min 1080p AVCHD video with effects takes less than 10mins. That’s just using Premiere Pro

A 6min 1080 video with AE effects dynamically linked took an 1hr that’s using 1 light , 3D Layers, Shadows, Motion blur and Chroma Key
    Here is that video https://niadatv.com/programs/autozone_a2z.htm

So if your using AE for effects then yes that sounds about right.

Patrick, how are you adding the lighting effect? If you do it with Adobes Premiere Pro 5.5 accelerated color correction tools things might go a bit faster.

I CC a 4 min. sequence with Colorista 2 in PrP and it took about 12 minutes.

I went back and used the 3 way CC in Premiere and it took about 3 min. I was able to match the look I created with Colorista 2 to my satisfaction.

This assumes you have the nVidia 4000 CUDA card of course (which I just saw you do).

I added “Lighting Effects” in Premiere Pro, basically a point light. I used it to correct some dark arias in the video. I decided to just us “Brightness & Contrast” settings instead, but I was worried about the render time after being used to it going allot fast in After Effects.

I think Brightness & Contrast would be faster computations than a light function.Especially since it is an accelerated effected with CUDA.

Then you should be able to render that video out quickly it sounds like Cuda isn’t working.

Do you have a suggestion on how I could find out of CUDA is working right or not? And or how to set to right? Thanks so much guys, you have been allot of help!

Go to the Project / Project Settings / General Tab.

Under Video Rendering and playback is Renderer. There are 2 options on the drop down.

    1. MPE GPU Acceleration (if this is active, the CUDA card is working)

    2. MPE Software only (this means the CUDA card is NOT working).

I had that already set on. And it looks like it is still on. So I guess everything is working. Thanks for the info, you have been a huge help. 😀
