  • Prem Pro 2.0 and BMD 5.4 Drivers Report

Posted by Bill Buchanan on January 23, 2006 at 11:05 pm

Working in long-form with typically thousands of shots in the bins, I’ve been one of those doing battle with the “…Serious error…” crashing with Prem Pro 1.5.

Rumored that PPro2.0 had addressed the memory issues that plagued 1.5, I acquired 2.0 as soon as it was released. And I’m glad I did.

So far, not a single “serious error” crash has occurred, either by placing/trimming clips on the timeline or rendering–short or long–or rendering with 3rd party plugins like Magic Bullet Editors.

Though I had enabled the 3gb (PAE) switch with 1.5, it didn’t help. But now even Adobe advises enabling it with Prem Pro 2.0 (including PS and AE) can use 3gb of RAM.

Apparently BMD’s 5.4 driver supports PPro 2.0 very well, too. Good work, folks. I now have a reason to live.

    Hi,

Can’t wait to receive my copy of 2.0 after reading this!

One question, how do you enabled the 3gb (PAE) switch? Never heard of this.

    Greatz,
    Dimi.

    Hello
I installed 5.4 version driver yesterday on my Premiere Pro 1.5 and there was a roblem with DV clips, when I’m playing the clip everything is going well, but while STOP the frame is distort ot my TV monitor (in the PP monitor the frame is OK).
This thing is happening only with the DV Blackmagic comression clips.

The Blackmagic guys worked on the drivers right throughout 2.0 development, so it is a job well done. Those serious error messages don’t show up in 2.0.

Yes, I can see this too on a newly built system with PremPro v1.51 and a first-time-install of BMD 5.4. In PAL DV mode (I’ve not tested NTSC), DV clips play fine but pause with the picture sheered to the left and a diagional black blanking line from bottom right to top mid left.

If I had to guess the cause of the bug, I’d say that on pause plus or minus one pixel/line is being shifted into the frame buffer so that each line is getting progressively further out of horizontal sync, since it’s roughly 576 pixels out by the end of the 720×576 PAL frame.

I don’t think it will be difficult to fix.
