Preimere Selective Playback?
Hey there,
I was just wondering whether or not anybody had heard of doing this with premiere. It seems like something that should be very basic and very useful, especially when trying to edit something like DSLR footage that doesn’t have timecode. Basically what I’m trying to do is playback the first minute of the timeline in my sequence and then skip the next 10 seconds and then continue the playback after the 10 seconds. Hopefully, hypothetically this would allow you to see what your edit would look like without moving things on the timeline. Has anybody heard of this? Does it exist? is it possible on another software? final cut? Avid? Thanks in advance!

For all i know, this can´t be done neither in Premiere nor any other NLE software. However, you can duplicate your sequence to make changes preserving the original sequence, and ripple delete (Shift+delete) all the shots you don´t want to be played to test your edit.

Hi,
Best way to do this is to use a keystroke Automator with macros.
You can set it to press a certain key, in your case down arrow to move to next edit, then space, then wait 10 seconds until repeat action. If you are in apple osx you can use Automator, in windows try a google search, there are loads of these to choose fromHope that helps

The keystroke Automator idea sounds great! Is there a way I could turn this into a third party plugin for premier that would do this automatically? Say, I put marker points around where I want it to skip and the plugin tells it to skip over those parts in playback. Would this work? Would I have to do any coding to make the plugin?

I’m not sure about plugins, that’s not an area of expertise for me. You could put markers down and use keystroke Automator to move to next marker but I’m not sure how you would tell it how long to play until it moves to the next one. At this stage it might be easier to build an edit old fashioned way 🙂Dave

Why not duplicate your sequence and start editing? Then you can always revert back to the original timing.
