Preference/Settings file?
Is there “a file” that stores preferences and settings in Vegas (9a-64bit)?
I have to re-install Vegas 9a-64bit (now my audio FXs have disappeared). I hate having to re-set all of my preferences, customized FXs, shortcut keys, etc. Would be nice to simply save a “preference file” if one exists.

Hopefully someone will have a more definitive answer, but a trick I have used in the past for finding the answer to questions like that is to change one setting, exit the program then do a search for all files modified in the last hour. If there is a file, you can often find it that way. Hope that helps !

when I upgraded from 7 to 8, I had to locate certain folders within 7, that had my personal settings, like window layouts, and plugins, color settings, ect,anything I personally wrote, then I had to copy them to the same folder in 8, then they were there. did that answer your question ?

those are your files you would know the names of those, do you mean do I know the name of the folders they are in, they would be in your last version of vegas’s folder, in 1 of the many sub folders, the more stuff you wrote, the more plugins you installed, the more folders you will have to locate, then copy that info to your latest version then they will be there, this is how I’ve done it in the past, if there is another way I would like to know too.

I’m not sure what you are referring to, Shawn. I talking about customized FXs. When these are saved, Vegas must store that info within one of its folders. The same with shortcut keys. To my knowledge, I do not have the ability to pre-determine where those items are stored within Vegas. So, I’m wondering where Vegas stores them.

The only way these can be saved is if you have a chain with more than one FX in it.
Then you would use Preset Manager (free from Sony) to save the chain.The same with shortcut keys.
From the Vegas online help menu:
Save a keyboard map
Click the Save as button and type a name to save your current keyboard shortcuts to an .ini file in the C:\Documents and Settings\
\Application Data\Sony\Vegas Pro\9.0 folder.
(C:\Users\\AppData\Roaming\Sony\Vegas Pro\9.0 in Windows Vista).The Application Data folder is not visible unless the Show hidden files and folders radio button is selected on the View tab of the Windows Folder Options control panel.
You can use this file as a backup or to share your keyboard shortcuts with other Vegas users.
