  • Preferences definatly NOT saving/ Title 3d gone

I think the title says it all. Of course a time-line is due tomorrow.

    Symptoms:
Title 3d is not in the viewer dropdown.
All of my presets are gone.
When I re-open FCP I need to select an easy setup every time.
I need to set up my A/V preferences every time.
I need to set up my external editors (photoshop) every time.

This all started happening today. I was editing some pict still image files when, BAM! FCP just disappeared. My Ram checks out no errors.

I have tried Anders preference program = same results.

I can keep working though I am very fearful that my project may vanish at some point

    FCP 5.1.4

    Dual Core 2 Duo 3.0Ghz, 6GB ram, 2x500GB Raid, Tiger 10.4.11, FCP 5.1.4

I have repaired permissions. I will try another restart.

[Erik Mickelson] “Title 3d is not in the viewer dropdown.”

It’s not in the Boris subset?

Sounds to me like you will require a full re-install with all the issues you’re having. I probably would not have updated an older version of FCP as far along the OS as you have. Especially if you’ve allowed Quicktime to update as well.

Newer OS and newer QT always have features in them that work well with the latest versions of FCP, but oftentimes cause major issues to older versions.

    Thanks for the reply Walter.
I have a question. Does FCP play well with PICT files? This is my first time using them and the BAM! All this starts happening. I have been using this system for quite a while now with no problems. I did install the Noise Indudtries dome. Any problems there? Maybe that’s it! It says right on the site-plays well with FCP Studio 2 only! What do I have? Hmmmm FCP 5.1.4 comes with what package? Motion 2…yup. Hmmm…I’ll have to check. I think I have FCP Studio1. I’ll delete Noise Industries and report back.

It seems that my Boris filters went to the User/Library~plug-ins folder somehow. I moved them back to the regular System/Library~plug-ins folder and the whole shootin’ match seems to be running up to speed. No more problems the last hour or so. I wonder how that could happen. Computers, they are just …good.

Never had a problem with them here. I usually use PNG or JPEG images in FCP, but PICT hasn’t been an issue.

Well you did note that you installed the Noise Industries package into your system and those are designed for Studio 2, not your version of FCP.

PICT is a file format designed for the original Macintosh computer. It is still widely supported in all Apple apps including FCP.

There are more efficient graphics file types, but PICTs do not have issues.
