Precompositing
Hi,
I have mostly learned AE by doing thanks to the many tutorials available here. Now i need to understand some of the things i use to do. I noticed for instance before using a layer as a displacement map, one is recommended to precompose it. What is precomposing? when to use it? When not to use it?

Many thanks. Definition is the key. I personnally have learned to use precomp, well, like a machine. Yesterday my 12 years old brother came in my room and asked me why i precomposed that layer, i was unable to give him the answer, that’s were i recognized there was a problem, how come i can’t answer the “why”, while i know thw “how”.
