Precompose 3D?
Hi,
Up until this point I was under the impression that 3D layers could not be precomposed and keep their inherent 3D attributes. That is to say, if I had two layers (called “Alpha” and “Beta”) interacting in 3D space, then precomosed “Alpha” and “Beta” into a comp “Delta” and moved this new layer “Delta” in 3D space, the objects in the precomp would appear as a flat 2D layer.
Then, I was going through Marek Doszla’s tutorial for Animating a butterfly. Marek has a comp of a butterfly flapping it’s wings in 3D space. This is then precomposed into another comp, where he animates the position and rotation of the butterfly. In this new comp, the precomposed butterfly does not act as a 2D plane – it’s wings are indeed flapping and interacting in the same 3D space. How is this possible, when for so long I thought it wasn’t possible? Does it having something to do with his camera setups?

SIT https://www.creativecow.net/articles/doszla_marek/butterfly/butterfly.sitI would really appreciate if someone could take a look at this and share how it was done.
Many Thanks,
