I build an animated lower third that I really like but I want to save time and pre-render it for future projects. What is the best way to go about this? I tried to pre render it before, but the black background comes along with it. Is there a way to insert a checkerboard background or something like that so Vegas knows that the background is opaque or not supposed to be there?

Render it alone on the timeline using the QuickTime Animation codec.

    1. Select File | Render As…
    2. Make the Save as type: QuickTime 7 (*.mov)
    3. Press the Custom… button
    4. Select the Video tab
    5. Make the Video format: Animation
    6. Change the Compression depth: to 32 bpp color

It should look something like this:

That worked! Thanks. I purchased the Vegas Pro production assistant and I like it. I made some adjustments to the lower thirds and wanted to save on render time. This will help a lot!

Wait…I thought it worked but it didn’t. The lower third still has a solid black background. I followed the instructions exactly but it’s not working. I am not sure what I am doing wrong.

Have you ‘turned on’ the alpha channel. Right click the event and go to media.

That is what I did wrong. It works now, thanks!
