I’ve read multiple threads on pre-rendering in Vegas and I’m curious if there’s a way to tell Vegas to pre-render a specific clip to apply the effects settings and thus create a new clip with all of that rendered, in the timeline. It would be like rendering effects in Photoshop as new layers, but in this case, I only care about a single rendered clip (although it would be nice to have the effects on their own layers, in a sub folder for example).

Is there such a thing? SHIFT-M only produces a render of what’s visible. If I solo the track I want to pre-render, pre-render it, and then un-solo, the pre-render goes away since any fades into that clip make the pre-render invalid…

Vincent some shared glossary we need to clear up:

1] We put Media onto a Track, and that Media is now called/referred to as an “Event”

2] Your “Clip” on the Timeline is also an “Event”

[Vincent Levalois] “…. if there’s a way to tell Vegas to pre-render a specific clip to apply the effects settings and thus create a new clip with all of that rendered, in the timeline.”

Yes. It’s called Render to a New Track for a project-permanent rendered Event. Or, you could try Prerender Selection, which is volatile and as good as a chocolate teapot, well, a bit better than BUILD RAM Preview..

[Vincent Levalois] “(although it would be nice to have the effects on their own layers, in a sub folder for example).”

Yes, that would be nice. Vegas doesn’t do that. Least not in that simple way you are asking – more’s the pity. However, we can set up a “dummy” Track with the Plugin CHAIN applied to the Track Header. It’s messy, but it works. You’re gonna have to realise/accept that Vegas started off as an Audio based s/w (?) and the terminology and often the workflow, lends itself more to the Audio world. IMHO there’s often a clash of graphic-awareness as Vegas shoe-horns itself into this graphical world, that Photoshop is clearly at ease with.

There is convergence, but complete seamless wafting in and out of the graphics domain I feel is a long way off! (LoL!) Others will have their own opinions.

Tell me, what is it your are wanting to achieve? What’s your final “workflow” outcome you’re looking for?

[David Ridlen] “How to prerender audio only?”

    OK, I’ll bite: Why?

I applied pitch shift FX to an audio event, but unless I play from the beginning of the clip each time, the synch is inconsistent and changes each time I click and play anywhere in mid-clip. I also needed to split the audio clip multiple times and slide them to synch with video. But this was not possible, given the random synch problem. I had to guess where to move a clip to, play from the beginning each time, on each clip, to guess the degree of error, move the clip some, play again from the beginning, etc.
