Pre Pro 5.5 – Quadro FX4000 and Matrox MX02 Mini MAX
Posted by Don Cobble on May 13, 2013 at 4:16 amI have Adobe Production Premium 5.5 and a Nvidia Quadro FX 4000 Card. Not clear about MXO2 Mini MAX. Would the MXO2 with MAX offer any benefit to rendering if I already have the Quadro 4000?
Meaning the Mercury Engine thing? – Looking for the most efficient way to render for web streaming.
Thank You

May 13, 2013 at 2:38 pmHi Don,
The first investment I would make is upgrading your RAM to at least 16GB, which will provide an immediate performance boost on the cheap.
As for the MXO2 Mini with MAX, that will provide fast export to H.264 formats, but how much of a time savings depends on your processor. Which model of i7 do you have?
Thanks

First thank UI have an I7 2.8 Ghz Processor. I will glady boost the ram if that will help. Just do not understand the Cuda benefit to Pre Pro if any? and I have the MXO2 mini max from an old mac pro 1.1 that I am no longer using – finally switching to Adobe on a PC. So didnt know if it is a benefit to incorporate the MXO2 mini max with the Quadro 4000.
I will see how much ram my system will hold and max it out. The more the better correct?
Also I was useing the Cineform intermediary for editing before – do you know is that edit well with PrePro?

May 13, 2013 at 4:21 pmHi Don,
I should’ve been more specific in my processor question – I know you have an i7 2.8Ghz, but which MODEL? There’s first-gen, which is the 900 series such as a Core i7-920, 960, etc., then came the Core i7-2600, and now the latest ones. I’m guessing older based on the 2.8Ghz.
If you have the Core i7-2600, that will encode pretty fast. If a first-gen, then you may see more of a benefit from the MAX encoding. In any case, use the MXO2 to take advantage of the Matrox effects (Color correction, keying, custom wipes) and to connect an external preview monitor.
And yes, more RAM is always a good thing.
Thanks

Sorry now I understand – my processor is I is an 860 Lynnfield 2.8ghz 4cores 8 threads if that helps, so an older one. maybe three years i think.
I do good bit of internet uploading and rendering is a lot of my time. SO looking to make it optimal work flow.PC

May 13, 2013 at 6:22 pmMatrox MAX encoding for H.264 is definitely going to speed up your H.264 encodes, hook it up.
Cineform is still a good workflow, I see no problem there
Thanks

May 21, 2013 at 1:52 pmHi Don, and others who may be reading this, the MXO2 Max editions accelerate H.264 encoding in the windows and the mac world.
Meaning in the Adobe suite, when you go file – export – media you will have the regular H.264 options and the Matrox Max H.264 options.
On the Mac, with compressor, look for the Matrox Max H.264 options and use them to speed up the encoding.
As for video effects / transistions while editing, the following only applies in windows:
– install both the driver and the Matrox effects package (they are on the same download site)
– in your Adobe effects you will have Matrox effects being listed
– in your Adobe transisitons, you will have Matrox wipes – select it, and go to custom, you will now be able to see the full listing of the various wipes available for useRegards
