    Hi,

I’d like to make my own ‘Pre-matted footage’ for overlaying effects but am not sure of the exact process. I absolutely LOVE Andrew Kramer’s Action Movie Essentials, which is basically a DVD full of these pre-matted videos, but I’d like the ability to make my own custom fx like these.

Using Andrew’s footage as a model, I’m guessing you film the FX against a green screen, key out the background and then save the footage with the alpha channel intact BUT…

    1) What format? Quicktime Animation? Will that do for high-rez stuff?
    2) How do I get a good enough key for subtle effects like smoke and fog, etc?

Would love some ideas on a good system to work to.

    Thanks in advance,

    ALEX
