i have two layers that i want to push down into a pre-comp so i can play with a mask over them. when i make the pre-comp i lose my transfer modes ( one layer is Add the other is Multiply ). the pre-comped layer goes to “normal” and doesnt reflect the modes in the underlying layers. changing the mode of the pre-comp layer itself just looks messy. any way of working through this ?

If you colapse transformations on that nested comp, it should make the layers in the precomp use their original transfer mode in your main comp. However, it does cause other problems so keep your eye out for trouble with those layers.
