April 7, 2014 at 8:10 pmA lot of really interesting features, but buried down in the list was this gem.
“Broadcast Safe out of limit display and soft clip level selection.”
I wonder is this simply a display that will give you an “alarm” when you are outside broadcast safe? Or is this going to be something similar to the Broadcast Safe back in Apple Color?

YEAThough I still can’t really use it unless FCP7 roundtrip works fully again… did they ever get it working right in 10?

April 8, 2014 at 10:18 pm[Eric Chase] “But will it also “safe” chroma?”
Yes, there are three different levels of “safe,” each stepping the luminance/chroma down from optimum to “very conservative” levels that appear to stop just about any overshoots.I always did this manually, but this is a nice feature to have and I’m glad they implemented it.

April 8, 2014 at 11:09 pmIt appears to be limiting both luma and chroma. However, it’s more like a hard clip rather than the soft roll off you would see on a Harris DL-860.

April 9, 2014 at 9:17 pmIf they are turning this into a NLE, maybe they could add support for P2 MXF in AVC-Intra flavor. I’d love to be able to natively edit and grade them all in one application without messy transcoding first.

To me those formats are like video with fields.
A bit of history.
Prores seems the new compression type for that.
