Praxis Effect
Afternoon all, I had the opportunity (quite by accident) to re-watch the original Stargate movie last night, and was reminded that for ages I looked to find a tutorial to make the “Praxis” effect as used when Ra’s spaceship blows up at the end.
I never found one back then, so did some Google Fairy searches again today with no luck. Is anyone aware of one or can point me in a direction? At the back of my mind is that a Scandinavian software company had a plugin that did it – but I am going back 15 years – I think they were swallowed by RedGiant or one of those?

by ‘praxis’ do you mean the ring in this clip:

- create new solid and add the circle effect, increase the radius to better fill the screen.
- add another circle effect to the same layer, set the blending mode (in the circle effect) to stencil alpha and increase the feather property and radius to make a ring.
- add the roughen edges effect.
if should start to resemble that ring.
if you animate the radii of the circles to expand at about the same rate and rotate the layer in 3d, I think you start to get close.Kevin Camp
