PProCS6 not relinking to renders
Posted by Oliver Peters on May 26, 2012 at 7:49 pmWhen I close and re-open a project, PProCS6 does not reconnect to the preview renders. They are still there in the folders, but the timeline is back to unrendered. Normal or a bug?

May 26, 2012 at 9:34 pmIs this a project that was started on CS6? Was the project moved from another computer to your current one?

May 26, 2012 at 9:45 pmYes. Started in CS6 and only on this computer. However, I have imported some EDLs, XMLs and other projects into it, as it’s just a test project right now.

May 26, 2012 at 9:51 pmOliver, knowing PrPs weakness in the Media Management department, my instincts are that the EDLs and XMLs might be the cause of your problem.Relinking has been reported as an issue in the work flow you are testing.
You might try posting this at the Adobe Premiere Pro forum where Wil or Todd might be able to have some input.Tom Daigon

May 26, 2012 at 10:00 pmI think it’s a bug. I just did a short test with a brand new project and got the same results. Sequence doesn’t “remember” renders after relaunch.
This is with MB Looks effects applied to the clips. Media is ProResLT. I have custom sequence render settings set to ProResHQ instead of Mpeg2. Media Cache locations are set to a different drive than the default installation locations.
Are they holding for you?

May 26, 2012 at 10:06 pmSorry Oliver, I misinterpreted what your issue was. I will run a similar quick test.
I can tell you that I keep my Media Cache and Media Cache Files folders on my system folder which is the default. I do remember a long time ago that when I moved them I did have issues. But time has clouded my memory of what the issues were.
Now I DO keep my Video and Audio Preview folders with the project on my raid array.

May 26, 2012 at 10:20 pmTest 1 – Photo JPEG – Send clip to AE. Apply filter. Save. Tab to PrP. See clip update. Close PrP. Open PrP. It took about 10 sec. for PrP to find AE DL clip
Test 2 – P2 – Same process. PrP took 4 seconds to find AE DL file.

May 26, 2012 at 11:06 pmMy final test was probably the one I should have started with.
Test 3 – P2 – Applied glow effect to clip on timeline. Render.Save and close project. Opened project. PrP immediately recognized.
Preview (render) file folder in the same project folder as media folder. All on the raid array.

May 26, 2012 at 11:10 pm[Tom Daigon] “Preview (render) file folder in the same project folder as media folder. All on the raid array.”
Hmm… That wouldn’t really work for me as I have files in various folders. There is no one common media folder, but rather by project. The reason I don’t use the system drive (the default location) is it would be too slow for the file type to guarantee real-time.

May 26, 2012 at 11:15 pmMaybe I am not being clear. I have a folder for the Project Test that is located on my raid.
In the Test folder I have a folder for Media. I also have the Preview Folder that PrP generates here as well. That way they both are in a logical place for archiving and they both benefit from the speed of the array.Tom Daigon

May 26, 2012 at 11:21 pmI see. Actually I just ran another test here. This time without the custom render setting. AVC Intra media and just used the standard preset, which would render to the MPEG codec. No other location or procedural changes. Relinked right away. Wonder if the custom render codec creates an issue.
