  • PPro v8.0 Syncing Settings Failed

Posted by Dustin Parsons on July 24, 2014 at 11:00 pm

Every time I try to sync my settings I get the ‘Syncing Failed’ dialogue box. I have tried restarting my computer, updating the CC app, signing out and signing in again to CC, syncing from another account and then clearing my settings from https://creative.adobe.com/appsettings which I don’t think I wanted to do because now I think my custom settings are gone forever.

So I have a few questions:

  • Why is syncing my settings not working for me and how can I fix it?
  • Since I cleared my settings for PPro from https://creative.adobe.com/appsettings is there any way to recover them?
  • Since syncing is obviously not reliable how do I export/move my settings from one computer to the next via a thumb drive?
  • Does PPro have a History for saved settings that I can use to revert to an old saved Settings of mine in case I accidentally upload setting rather than download them?
  • Thanks!

Unfortunately I have also not had good experience with the sync settings feature either. For one thing, I never understood when you click “sync settings” if you are uploading them to the cloud or downloading from. Either way, clicking it never did anything for me either in Ppro or AE. I don’t know weather or not you can retrieve your erased settings from the cloud, but I highly doubt it.

If you are on a mac, you can go to Documents>Adobe>Premiere Pro>8.0>Profile[username]> and there you will see a file called “Adobe Premiere Pro Prefs” and a folder called “Mac”. Copy those to your flashdrive and place in the same folder on the machine your moving to in order to copy the prefs, including window layouts and shortcuts. I don’t know what the path is for windows but I’m sure it’s similar, and a quick google search will find it.

Thanks for the reply JP. I’ll have to grab my preference files and put them on dropbox for when syncing inevitably doesn’t work again.

As for uploading or downloading setting when syncing you can set your preferences for that in the PPro Preferences under Sync Settings. I keep the ‘When syncing‘ drop down set to ‘Ask my preference‘ and am always presented with a dialogue box asking whether I want to Upload or Download. Alternatively you can set the ‘When syncing‘ preference to ‘Always upload‘ or ‘Always download‘.

It’s a shame this isn’t working because I customize the crap out of my keyboard and it takes me forever to get it back to where I like it. It’s a cool feature when it works 🙁

I feel your pain. I initially only changed a few shortcuts, then a few more, then a few more, and now it’s to the point where I find it insufferable to try to edit with anything but my own set.

As for the upload/download dialogue box, I always assumed something like that was supposed to show up, but for me it never has. As I primarily edit on 2 machines, both of which I am the only real user, I haven’t really needed to do this frequently. So I gave up on it pretty fast and went with my old familiar way of copy/pasting prefs.

      Hi Guys,

Please try using sync settings again. It should be working.

      Sorry for the inconvenience.
