An upcoming project requires fast-moving 60sec promos edited on the road (hotel room desks and coffee tables) from scenes shot that very day.

My mid-2013 MacBook Pro actually works fine here in the studio with 4K transcoded h264-to-ProRes422, but definitely not fine with 4K mp4 clips. On the road I’ll have no time for transcoding before editing.

I reviewed specs of current Mac laptops and seems like there’s barely any improvement these last 4 years in meaningful processor power.

    My current 2013 MBPRO—
    Processor Name: Intel Core i7
    Processor Speed: 2.8 GHz
    Total Number of Cores: 4
Intel HD Graphics 4000 1536 MB

I have small SSD RAIDs and storage drives, so the internal Mac drive spec is not a big issue.

Would anyone out there be cutting 4K mp4 camera files on a Mac portable with no stagger / stutter / lag / choppy performance impediments?

(I’ve been told a pumped-up new PC laptop will effortlessly cut 4K, but for this particular project I’m not able to switch away from Mac.)

I wonder what OS you are running on this machine and how it runs? Are you using Pr CC 2017?

I have a similar machine but with NVIDIA GeForce GT 650M
    VRAM (Total): 1024 MB
    16 G RAM

I am running Mac OS 10.8.5 and Pr CC “2013” because I haven’t wanted to update in the middle of several long projects.
Not an answer but thanks for your thoughts.

I’m running 10.11.6 El Capitan and PPro 2017, just short of the very latest update which I’ll install tonight.
