PPRO not Mac Friendly? Whats Going on?
I’m rather Frustrated at this point, so 3 of my clients of whom I gave Final quick times using PPRO exporting using standard Youtude HD export settings(.mp4). My Clients cannot view the file on any of there computers via MAC or PC I’ve exported different settings and they play fine on my machine, send them to the client…nope wont work they claim to just get the first frame of video and then audio and nothing else, and the icing on the cake is that Final Cut, Compressor, QT pro 7 refuse to export it to anything else I just get a white screen with audio and since apparently exporting via PPRO isn’t working, I have to take the .mp4 into iMovie export out a .m4v and then all apple products will work with the file and sometimes that doesn’t even work! This is getting rather annoying as I have clients that are very impatient. Whats the Deal? is this Adobes way to get me to switch to PC?

This is not a known issue. Been working this way for a long time. What are they playing off? MP4 extension may be creating issues for them. Try changing the extension to mov. Sounds like they are using something our of date or weird… Windows Media player, VLC and QT playack all my MP4 files fine….

Well, I’m using a Mac and use Premiere Pro and Media Encoder to export stuff all the time for Windows machines. The Youtube Preset in Premiere Pro is a very high bitrate file. There is a possibility that your client’s computers don’t have the throughput or horsepower to play them back. Those presets are optimized to upload to Youtube (or similarly, Vimeo) because they then re-encode the file to a much lower bitrate so they can stream over the internet well.
I would use the iPad or iPod or even the AppleTV settings, those are lower bitrate and might work better.
Regarding the conspiracy about PPro not working as well with Macs, at least in this regard, I think Media Encoder runs rings around Compressor. If they can just get Media Encoder to be a bit more stable (it seems to hang pretty often) that would be great. I never use Compressor anymore unless I have to.
Keep at it, I think you’ll find the correct setting.

I’m not sure I’m following this… Does QT player on your machine play the file? Have you followed up on what sort (how powerful) of computers your users are attempting to play the file on?
Did you make any adjustments to the export settings? It sounds like you may have mouse-wheeled down and inadvertently changed something (one of Adobe PPro and Media Encoders worst traits…the ‘always active’ roll-over widgets)…something I end up doing rather frequently.
If I had to guess, I’d say the export settings may have slipped in the “profile” and “levels” parameters from the preset…
