PPro CS5 acting up when using 1920×962 source material
Something I don’t get in premiere pro: I’ve renderet some 1920×962 videos, i make a new sequence picking that size as my video frame size and video previews as well..only problem is: the 1920×962 videos need to be scaled up to 112 % to fill out the black space on all sides once in the timeline. It’s like the source magically got “smaller”. I know this is an unorthodox size, nevertheless it’s the one I’ve chosen – how can I make premiere pro cs5 DEAL with it?

Hi torben,
As the frame dimensions of your media are “unorthodox” and don’t fit any standards, any presets will most likely have a smaller or larger frame dimension which causes the black borders.
Try this:
In project panel, grab your media you want to edit and drag it down to the bottom of the panel where there is an icon for new item. It looks like a page with the top corner turned.Now drop it over the new item icon. (release the mouse button). Wait a few seconds and CS5 will create a custom sequence to match your media properties including frame rate. If you plan to export to a standard then best to work with the file in it’s own custom sequence. Finish and export the same dimensions.
Then use the final export in a new “stantards preset” and scale it to the way you want it and export again with the maximum quality tick in ame settings UI.

It is a non-standard framesize…but Premiere Pro is likely the best NLE out there for this type of thing…
So…I would be curious to know some more details about your sequence settings and your media.
Can you list the attributes of the sequence setup you created? Also, i’d like to know how the previews are set as well.
Next, the media. What sort of material is it? Probably not video as the frame size is not video, but where is the material coming from and what exactly are the media assets’ attributes? If the frame size is set for 1920×962 and the material is truly being recognized as 1920×962 (does it say that those are the image dimensions in the top of the project panel when you click on an asset in a bin, or just in the project panel?) What does the ‘info’ panel indicate when you select the asset on the timeline?
This IS odd behavior, but keep in mind that 962 is NOT divisible by 8 and I know that particularly the MPEG preview files may have some odd behaviors when a framesize does not have dimensions that are divisible by 8 in both dimensions (the DCT block subdivisions are 8×8).
