PPro CS3 Memory useage any better?
Hi All…
We’ve been dealing with an end user who has been working on a documentary shot on HDV. As you can imagine the shooting ratios are very, very high. As a long form project, the number of total edits in any given sequence is also quite high. As such there were considerable problems with crashing and difficulties with output.
To resolve this we suggested that he split the massive project into seperate logical projects. This seemed to resolve his issue for getting the long form edit done.My understanding is that a lot of this has to do with Premiere Pro v2 being somewhat inefficient in its memory usage.
The question: is CS3 any better?
I saw at a recent demonstration that you can now turn of the render tracking (what generates the red bars) which supposedly was a big part of the Ram issue.
Is XP ok or is Vista better?
I hesitate to move this user to a new version MID project, but he’s now doing some reversioning that might require merging of the projects.
I’m checking to see if he can create new master clips of th edits in his sub projects and then use those in a new Master project…Thus using fewer total sources and fewer edits to track. Hopefully he can use this technique to get through this project while we determine the viability of CS3.
I love Premiere and have garnered a whole new respect for it using the Matrox hardware. With CS3, I hope they can live finally live up to the Pro part, as day to day, long form editing shouldn’t require so many work arounds.
Thanks,
Alex
