I am working with a Matrox SD widescreen sequence in PPro, which is 720×486 at 1.21 PAR. I need to export MPEG2 to a playout server for air. In Media Encoder, I use the NTSC DV preset, but then I get a very strange problem: If I try to change the default frame height of 480 to 486 (which matches the sequence), the frame rate options are limited to 23.976, 24 and 25. When at the default height of 480 (which softens the video), I have all the frame rates available and I can select the proper 29.97 fps. Ahyone know why this is?

    Hi Dave,

In most cases, you will want to export as 720×480, using crop settings in AME to remove the 6 unwanted lines. Matrox has special recommendations for crop settings depending on a few different factors, please see instructions here – https://blog.sharbor.com/blog/updates-to-dvd-export-settings-for-mxo2-cs5-5-users-2/

Next issue – sounds like you are maybe delivering to a cable TV station? Are they set up to accept/broadcast Widescreen SD? You might need to provide them with a 4:3 letterboxed version, would definitely check with them if there is any doubt on delivery specs.

    Thanks

The DVD presets will always be 720×480.

Thanks Chris, I actually wasn’t going to DVD, but Jeff’s crop solution was what I needed!
