My co-worker has the 2014 CC version of Ppro and I still have the previous CC version. I haven’t upgraded yet, based on the many bugs being reported. Since I can’t open her project file in my older version of Ppro I asked her to send me an XML. No dice, I get the “generic error” message from Ppro and it won’t open. I then tried opening the XML in FCP7, but still no dice. Then as a test I took a timeline in one of my current Ppro projects, exported an XML and then tried importing it back into a different project in Ppro – and still I get the “generic error.” First of all, if Ppro can’t import it’s own XML back into the same version of the software, then clearly something is broken. Secondly does anyone have any advice about how I can get timeine info from a more advanced Ppro version into the older version that I have? Thanks.

    Hi Herb,
On the Adobe forum, it appears that you’ve updated to Premiere Pro CC 2014. Can you try it again and report back? If it still malfunctions, you can report the bug here: https://adobe.ly/ReportBug

    I’ll check it out too.

    Thanks,
    Kevin

    Kevin –

I just exported an XML from Ppro 2014 and tried to re-import it – didn’t work, I got the same “generic error” message I had in the preceding version. I will say that the timeline I exported had multicam elements in it. I used XML for a simpler timeline a few weeks ago and it worked fine. On the other hand I’ve been importing and exporting multicam timeline XMLs for years in FCP. I will do a bug report to the Adobe site.

    Hi Herb,
I can understand why an XML with multicam items might confuse an XML. I’m not sure if Multicam Sequences are supported for translation in XML since FCP7 dealt with multcam sequences and clips much differently. What I would do is flatten the multcam sequence in Premiere Pro before sending it on. If the goal is to work collaboratively with multicam sequences via XML, I’m not sure it is possible, but I can check on it.

    Thanks,
    Kevin

    Kevin –

That is the goal. I have editors working with different, though recent, versions of Ppro and was hoping to use XML as a last resort to exchange files. Flattening is of no help in this case. Thanks for looking into it for me.
