  • PPro 2 loses recognition of dv deck randomly

    Hi

I am running PP2 on XP Pro, 2GB RAM. Intel 3.2, Radeon XT9600 graphics
    with a DSR-11.

The problem is premiere will randomly fail to recognise the deck and shows it as offline even though 5 min before I had captured something. I have tried using another dsr 11, using another pc with ppro 2, no luck.

So, I have tried different decks, different pc’s (therefore different cables), even different versions ( one is an upgrade the other a full version. Tried restarts, complete shutdown and no joy. I can come back the next day and everything is fine and working normally.

    Any suggestions?

    Cheers

Download a software called ScLive from https://www.scenalyzer.com and try capturing via that app. Does the same thing happen?

thanks for your reply Aanarav. It will be a couple of days until I’m back at work. I will reply once I have done the test.

I’ve had my PC lose recognition of my DSR-11 if I plug another firewire device to my computer. I’m not sure if that’s normal, but it happens. Maybe you had a conflict of some sort.

I have no other firewire device attached so I don’t think it is that.

The thing is, which I forgot to mention, is that I have no problems with 1.5. I use my dsr to preview out to monitor. PPro 2.0 doesn’t work 1.5 does.

i also have just read on dv.com a review by John Jackman of the production bundle and he mentions having the same problem when he was capturing off his JVC Camera.

Aanarav, I am downloading the capture software today and will give it a go but if everything works in 1.5 will this help solve the problem.

I am wondering if it might be a bug.

    Cheers

Are you have Decklink drivers or Morgan switch installed?

    No

I am strictly DV. No capture cards at all or any third party hardware/software just premiere and firwire card.

    Lance,
It’s not a bug. However, it is a problem with a few systems. Premiere Pro 2.0 broadened the capture criteria, so a lot more hardware based solutions are supported (HDV and the Aja cards) and hence the cause of the problem. There is a solution some place, I just have to look for it 🙂

Thanks Aanarav – I’ll wait for your reply.

BTW Tried Scene Analyser and it works fine.

    Here is the solution:

Download GraphEdit from Videohelp Tools or from anyplace else on the web that you prefer.

Once you’ve downloaded and installed (should take about 10 seconds), open GraphEdit and choose Graph > Insert Filters. Scroll down to a listing for “Video Capture Sources” and expand it to see what’s there. If you’ve got anything other than Microsoft DV camera and VCR, then expand that entry to see the location and name of the file. Navigate to that location and rename it’s file extension to .old. Now try capturing in PPro 2.
