I need to create a QT file (to be dumped to betaSP or Digibeta by a service) based on DV video, Premiere titles, and various graphics and still images prepared in photoshop. The service bureau suggested size should be 720×486. What is the best project settings to do this. Seems if I do a Video for Windows ( no QT mode in 1.0??) and set the size to be 720×486 a bit of black is added to the bottom to fill the screen when exporting to QT. If I do a DV project and just export a QT movie sized 720×486 then there is no black area so the image must be stretched 6 pixels. Looking at frame grabs from the two versions of final QT movies, it appears that text from the VFW project is a bit cleaner at the edges.

    Any other take on this?

Pure DV has way too many artifacts in the text and graphics to be considered. Obviously the quality of the actual DV camera footage will not get better. The final movie is only :30, about 1mb, so it will easily fit on a DVD to take to the service bureau.

You might want to take a look at Canopus’s Procoder.

Not sure I understand – how does procoder solve this problem?

Procoder can be used as a stand alone encoder as well as a plugin for Premiere Pro. You can export your video using Procoder and specify it to meet your requrements.

You also need to decide what to do about converting 720X480 into 720X486, but my guess is that if you ask them, they will say that 720X480 is just fine.

What does Procoder do that Premiere does not? If the image needs rescaling by 6 pixels does procoder do a better job than PPro?

Yes it does resize the videos as needed. Again, it is fully customizable and I would strongly reccomend taking a look at Canopus’s site for more info. Or Tim can help you out with the details.
