Doing a hHD 1920 project, not using proxies. When I am in the PP window things are fine and speedy. No problem playing back or scrubbing. 8 gigs of ram in the box. If I click out to something else on the desktop, when I return to PP it takes about 20 seconds to reinitialize so I can start working. I get the fun spinning icon. Which is fun to watch, right up until I punch the screen. All assets are on the internal HD. Thinking it must just be the overload on the system but thought I check before I started drinking. Thanks

CS5? Do you have all the updates installed? This was a known issue with it and I think they fixed it in a late update before CS5.5 came out.

Thanks…I am up to date. I downloaded the CS5.5 trail and the same problem does NOT exist. But it does not enable mercury for my GTX 470. It’s always something.

Always a risky idea to store media, especially big files like yours, on the sys drive. Suggest an external firewire drive for media, and you will probably see improved response.

You say you are getting the “spinning icon” so I assume you are on a Mac. Also you say all the ‘assets’ are on the box. On different drives or all on the same one?

Has this been happening since you first started using Pr or is it a new problem? i.e. did Pr work fine before recently?

How fast is the drive on your Mac?

How much RAM does your video card have?

PS. You might want to fill out your profile with your system. Saves us asking the same questions about system configuration, or making mistaken assumptions.

Hi,I upgraded to 5.5 and all is well. I am on a PC so I still have the spinning Icon. New problem since this is the first HD project I’ve done and am not using proxies. I have 8 Gb ram in the box. Card GTX 470. The assets are on the D drive and PP is on the C. 5.0 was up to date.

    Thanks.
