PP Import Question…
A pretty simple question.
It’s common sense that two different resolution clips on a set sequence would cause playback issues. Example, I create a sequence for 1080p. I lay down 1080 clips, all requiring no rendering….however when I lay down a 720 clip, the timeline render indicator goes red. Can’t watch it without rendering the entire work area.
In Final Cut, however, I can lay down both 1080 and 720 in the same sequence without playback issues, or needing to stop work, and render.
Can someone explain why FCP handles this so gracefully compared to PP, and if PP is actually capable of the same thing?

Just because there is a red line on a sequence from a clip doesn’t mean it can’t be played back without rendering. Have you tried to playback?
You haven’t mentioned the type of codec being used either. FCP has less native codec support than PPro as it converts everything to a quicktime wrapper and usually to an Apple intermediate codec or prores.

The two conflicting resolution files being brought in are from a Canon 7D and 60D…so H.264 codec.
Yes, I can indeed play back un-rendered footage in the red….only if I want to watch the timeline sputter and choke.
