  • PP CS3 Update changed all Titles in my projects?

I had created a series of training video projects back in Janurary using I think the initial version of PP CS3 (from the Production Studio package). I had completed the videos and archived them, saving only the project file, any misc. files under 1 MB, and my raw footage, thus deleting all render files (or what I thought were just render files).

During this time I was able to go back to my archived files (no copy on my work hard drives), and everything looked the way it should, in particular the text slates in my timeline were displaying correctly as I had designed them.

A week ago I updated my Premiere Pro to overcome alot of crashing I was experiencing. I find it much more stable now but found a bad surprise. I need to make changes to my previous training video projects. Upon opening them, my timeline and project layout was fine, but my font appearance had defaulted to some basic Microsoft font!

Is there any way I can fix all of these text slates in one single action? Or do I need to fix each one individually? There’s approximately 300+ text slates to fix… :-I

I don’t know if they can all be fixed easily. But, when I upgraded from 2.0 to CS3, I had the same problem with all of the fonts in both Premiere and After Effects projects of old. The culprit was a single font that I use a lot getting replaced by Adobe.

To fix this I went back to the original CS3 (yes CS3) install disc. If you explore it, there is a folder called fonts in there. Then I used the freeware program AMP Font Viewer (google it) to install the new fonts over the old stuff. Everything was back to normal. No need to recreate anything. DO NOT just copy and paste the fonts into the font folder in Windows. It may claim that they were installed properly, but they were not.

The font that gave me trouble was Adobe Garamond. But there are other Adobe fonts that were affected in the upgrade.

Thanks Shawn for the info! I do think now that it’s the same issue that happened to you. I went through my fonts and can’t find the one I used (doesn’t help that I forgot the name either). I’ll grab the install discs and see how things go.

I looked into my Windows Fonts folder, and a lot of them when I try to open up, give me an error message saying it’s either a corrupt font file or not installed properly.

I tried using the program you mentioned and looked on the Adobe DVDs. I tried installing from there but got the same error messages. Are you using v3.0? If so, could I send you my project file and you can tell me what font I used so that I could purchase it somewhere?

I’m using ver 3.7 of AMP Font Viewer. I think you have to drop the font folder (the one on the Adobe disc) onto the desktop and navigate there from AMP. It may not install directly from the disc.

If you want to send me the project file or maybe just a title file (they are usually in the same folder) send it to shawnNOSPAMMMM@visualimpactfla.com. Take out the NOSPAMMMM…
