Seems I do some pretty goofy stuff….

Just want to throw this out there as the latest unique situation rears its head…. OR …. What my limited mind doesn’t understand now…..

    PP 5.5
    MacBookPro latest Mountain Lion UD
Tbolt drives (through LaCie Tbolt/eSATA and OWC Helios
    Matrox MX02

I set up a Matrox project with the DV pre-set. I have many DV AVI clips and many DV MOV clips. All play in preview and export monitor through Matrox and I happily edit a timeline, say “01-1988 Videos”.

I export the timeline to Quicktime DV NTSC to multiple clips…..say… 05-04-1988 Babys Birth, 05-07-1988 Baby Comes Home, etc. (note – Future exports to be .H264 for Bluray authoring)

I have a Sony DSR-30 connected via FW to the MBP so I go to export to tape and…nothing. I want to export the whole timeline to tape as another source of back-up but do not want to use the Matrox as the output would be S-Video, right? OK, I figure out that the sequence should be set to DV so I create a new NTSC-DV sequence timeline and set-up the output to go to DV 720×480…blah, blah. And I copy the matrox sequence “1988…” to the new sequence timeline and hit playback. It works! so I have the preview monitor playing the clips to the Matrox and the timeline playing clips/sequences to the FW output to the Sony DSR-30. I happily switch between sequences and edit my way through 1988…Ahhhh, the memories!! Over the span of a couple days I re-open the project and edit here…export there…normal stuff… My idea as of now is just archive…Take out the bad glitches, replace with good captures, no effects, no colorist, no deleting footage…

Until today….. Preview still plays through the Matrox and the timeline that was selected when I closed PP last still plays through the FW out but when I change timelines to a Matrox sequence PP crashes… No matter what timeline I select if it is Matrox timeline from the DV timeline it crashes.

So much for that idea… 🙁

I must have a corroupt file somewhere as the last thing I did the other night was export a 3 hour timeline to tape before saving and closing PP…The output to tape window did some pre-render stuff that looked like titles since it was pretty fast and then exported the whole 3 hours to tape without any dropped frames, then I shutdown. I’m playing with prefs files and cache and reducing project size and lions and tigers and bears trying to find what will work….

Well… I figured out how to make this work. There were no corrupt files…

When in a DV timeline I just go into playback settings and select the drop down menu for “External Device” and set it to none. Then I can go between Matrox timelines and DV time lines. When I want to export to tape just change the setting on the DV timeline back to DV monitor 720×480 etc etc… And print to tape.
