    Hello,

I’m a novice to Premiere Pro, so please forgive any ignorance on my part. I started a project on my laptop, which didn’t have much power, hence using PP 2013. I’ve since updated my computer to something substantial, which should run 2015 without any issues, however, in the past I tried to upgrade but 2015 wouldn’t open up 2013 files. Am I able to do this or am I stuck finishing in 2013? I’d really like to be able to utilize some of the color tools in 2015, but I don’t want to spend hours updating/downgrading again. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

So many questions before anyone can actually help:

What computer model? Mac or PC?
    What specs?
What files wouldn’t open when you tried before, the project or that actual media files? What codec is the media?

    Hey Andy,

    Apologies. Specs:
    Asus M51
    8GB RAM
    1 TB Mem
    AMD HD 8570

The project wouldn’t open, I’d get an error message and when PP 2015 would finally open, there would be nothing on the timeline. Media is ProRes 422.

So windows version. Is all your media now on a new internal or external hard drive connected to the new computer? Did premiere state that you are opening up a old version of the project and would need to be updated? Did the media show up as offline (red clips) in the new project or are you saying nothing shows up in your sequence at all…. the sequence is completely empty? If the media is offline but showing in the sequence, you need to reconnect or relink the media to the new location of where you moved your clips.

Media is on an external HD connected to the new computer which is currently running 2013. When I attempted to run in 2015, it did state “old version/need to be updated” and there was no media on the timeline, completely empty.

    Hey Andy,

I read up on this and was able to remedy any issues I previously had. Thank you for taking the time to respond. I’m sure I’ll have more questions the further along I get.

    Hi Martyn,

What was the fix to get it to work?
