  • PP 12.1.1 only imports certain video clips as “audio only”

I have read a few confirmations about this on the Adobe board.
Older Mac (2009) running 10.11.6 (upgrade to 10.12 not possible). QuadCore with 8GB Ram.
I tried bringing in some clips that were shot with an EX3. These are 1440×1080 60i, not a format I really shoot anymore.

Using “Media Browser” some of the clips look normal, and most just show the Quicktime MOV logo (those come in as just audio).

12.1.0 did not have this problem.

    Any confirmations about this? Workarounds?

    Tx

    Thank you Dave,
    I have considered that.
Specifically these clips are straight out of the camera (XDCAM EX1080, etc); no transcoding. That has always been the beauty of PP as opposed to FCP 7; where it was so unstable, and required transcoding to ProRes.

Would Adobe intentionally out Sony codecs? That seems extreme.

This is very strange Dave. Some Sony files are ok, others are not.
I have gone back to 12..0, and still a perplexing mess.

The split screen in color correcting finally makes PP equal to FCP7. Plus all the other color features.
    Tough to pass up.

[Dave LaRonde] “Well, they killed off the Photo JPEG codec, which I use every day of the week. “

You can import Photo JPEG files in the latest one.

    UPDATE:
    I reverted PP to 12.0.1
Now it will see and import all types of XDCAM files – no problems. As always.

At 12.1.0 and 12.1.1 it would only read an import SOME XDCAM files; even within the same project.
Using the Media Browser as an import window, you can see that some files appeared as normal video/audio files that you could scrub through. Others showed up as QT icons only, and were identified an imported as “audio only”.

Adobe clearly lists XDCAM files on their “protected” list of codecs.

    What a mess.

I experienced the exact same problem you were having with some XDCAM files importing as audio only.
But I had already worked for several days within my project and saved it to the latest update. I reverted PP back to 12.0.1 but of course now that cannot open my project that was saved to the most recent update!

Is there any other solution to getting those XDCAM files to open properly in the latest PP version, or perhaps some workaround that I’m not thinking of?

I have had some success in simply re-naming them.
