I am having issues capturing HD video on my powerbook G4 1.67 via firewire. I have been able to capture in the past but it has not been consistent.

I have tried a variety of different combinations of cameras, external drives but the problem seems to be CPU utilization shoots during the capture.

I was able to log a full tape without issue but it seems like i may have just gotten lucky but I am trying to figure out a solution . Does anyone have any ideas as to what else I may be able to try?

    Thanks

All Macs have only one firewire bus. Multiple ports, but one bus. So if you have the camera and drive connected to the machine, then they are sharing the bus…and that can cause issues. Getting a PCMCIA firewire card for the machine, adding a firewire bus, will help.

Does that also apply if I am using a USB drive? That is what I am currently using, because i figured as much with the FW ports. I am able capture with the same config on a iMac G5 without an issue using same external drives and camera.

its just so weird that it works on occasion
