I may need to do some editing in the field soon. I’ve got a PowerBook G4 from 2002, with an 867Mhz processor, and 256 RAM. Is this going to be enough to run FCP 4.5 to do some simple cutting? Or will I get horribly bogged down? I realize I should up the RAM, but what will I need to get a simple job done that is not efffects-heavy? Thanks as always. – Rob

FCP 4.5 HD won’t even open with less than 386 MB RAM

Yes, try to get the RAM as high as you can. Other than that, you should be ok. Is this just DV footage? Turn off real-time rendering and just render things when you need to and you’ll be fine to cut video together. Once you get into color correcting and other effects that need a lot of rendering you might be less than happy, but it can certainly do those tasks too if you have the time.

But for just cutting? Yeah, no problem.

I would invest into a better powerbook/tower before dropping a grand on fcp.
