I’m currently running my Mac, 3 large LCDs, a studio monitor, a pair of reference monitors, an XServe RAID, a couple of decks (I have to switch plugs out when I need the others), a couple of UPSs and various accessories like converters, lamps, fans, etc. all through 2 dedicated and 2 shared power ports. I have more ports available, but at a distance of another 10′, and I don’t want to use an extension cord unless I can find one that’s intended to be permanent. Can anyone recommend some products for managing power cords in an edit bay – preferably something either rack mountable the standard way, or something that can attach along the back of the rack?

    also look into these

(they are available at fry’s just no picture availabable) these things are awsome, they let you plug any kind of plug in nothing gets in the way

things like these are awsome, they can keep you bundled and will release when you need to disconeect. i like these better then cable tubes and other things because you only need a few of them, to keep all of your cables organized.

Just be careful with the load you’re putting on your power system.

The Xserve RAID alone draws 7.6 amps per power cord.

[Bill Dewald] “Electric fire = bad”

Playing with fire is a bad idea. Managing a load is only part of the issue. Do you have adequate supply? Do you need more wall outlets instead of more outlet strips? Are the cords adequately gauged for your load/distance/resistance? Does your service panel have modern breakers? Do you really need some filtering and power smoothing?
Do you have a smoke alarm and electrical fire extinguisher in your facility?

Hiring a good electrician to install adequate power delivery and modern circuit protection is easier and cheaper than rebuilding your facility after a fire.
