potential line of action violation
I have a sequence where shots A and B cross the line but have an insert between them to properly reset. However, since the line of action for the insert is actually inherited from the A shot, it still might appear slightly jarring. I want to re-camera, but the director and producers don’t see the problem. Is there a technical term I can use to prove my case?
ShotA: attacker on screen right disarms defender screen left. Weapon flies off camera screen left.
Insert: disarmed weapon travels from foreground screen right to background screen left. The action is continued from prev shot.
ShotB: attacker and defender swap sides of the screen and camera has effectively crossed the line but was supposed to establish a new one.

Without seeing the shots this is hard to parse. Bottom line: is the viewer confused, or is the viewer quite clear about where things and people are? Very often, crossing the line works just fine, either because of a CU or a long shot. “There are no absolute rules.”
