Is there a way to set up a template with Post Haste to work with FCP X?

But how do you set up the template? One for X is not included with the installer. I presume you’d start with a blank “New Event” file using the right folder structure and build that into the template file. Could you be more specific? Thanks.

FCPX has very specific requirements in terms of the locations of project and event files. It also has issues if two projects or events have the same ID.
So for these reasons we don’t recommend using Post Haste to directly manipulate project files. We recommend you use it to manage media only or create templated FCP XML files that can then be imported into FCPX.

I was wondering if you could create a template that placed a blank “New Event” subfolder and event data file into a “Hidden” folder. I presume a user could create one and then import that into a new, custom template. You’d have to manually move it from there into the proper FC Events folder when actually working on it. I realize this sort of defeats the purpose, but it’s a thought.

You can’t do that because FCPX won’t like more than one event having the same ID. I’d recommend using XML files in the template then importing into FCPX for each project.
Also, future features will benefit from the data being in XML format.

But wouldn’t that be updated when a PH project name is assigned? Or do you mean the “current version” file would have the same ID, because it always starts from the same template dummy file?

The ID is inside the CurrentVersion file so it doesn’t change if you create a copy outside of FCPX.

yes, sorry. We use post haste to create our Assests folder and location for our Events. We then create a event template inside FCPX under the User and duplicate that for other projects (events).
