Activity Forums VEGAS Pro Possibly Really Stupid Question

Ok So I have been using Vegas Pro ( 8 and 9 ) for a good while now and consider myself a faily esperienced user – but one thing seems to evade me and I hope someone can point out how to do it.

Is their a replace media function – let me explain exactly what I want.

It is NOT a way to remediate that external media has changed (e.g. a Picture has been updated outside of the App),

If I give an example maybe that will help.

I have 10x 10 second clips – all filmed the same way. I take the first one and apply a velocity envelope to it, I alter the Pan and Crop- I change the temp and eventually stop the clip. I then add various FX to the clip.

I now want to do the same with the next 10 second clip – I know that I can copy the velocity envelope details, I can copy the pan crop details, I can copy the FX details – but there HAS to be an easier way to CLONE the original clip and then just have it REPLACE the underlaying clip with a new one – RIGHT?

I have tried for ages to do it and just can’t seem to find the feature or option for it….

See if this works for you.
Lasso all 10 clips in the Project Media tab, right-click and drag them to the timeline and select “Add as Takes”.
All 10 clips will be stacked one on top of the other.
You switch to a different clip be clicking the video event to highlight it and then pressing the T (for Take) key to cycle through the various clips.

Can’t you just right-click and select Copy on the first clip and the select the other 10 and right-click and select Paste Event Attributes? That should copy velocity envelopes and everything.

Wow – yes indeed the TAKE option does work – thanks for the tip,

Still – I think that as a future feature request adding a simple “Change or Replace media” function wouldn’t be a bad thing.

Then again as a .Net programmer maybe I just write my own script to do it 🙂

If I do I’ll pot it here for people to use

    Thanks again,

    Mark.

[John Rofrano] “Can’t you just right-click and select Copy on the first clip and the select the other 10 and right-click and select Paste Event Attributes? That should copy velocity envelopes and everything.”

The only downside with this way is that if you have anything else on the clip it Pastes the events AFTER anything previous. For my purposes it would be fine – but I think the TAKE idea is pretty cool…

Takes are a very under-used feature of Vegas so I’m glad they were able to help you out here.
