If this has been covered elsewhere in this forum, sorry but I missed it. The available info on the P2 camera (Panasonic Pro website) states that it has a USB 2.0 port, and so does the P2 Store. Is is possible to stream output of DVCPRO 25, 50 or HD out to the P2 Store directly from the camera for long shoots over USB 2.0? The alternative of swapping two 8 gig P2 cards between the camera and P2 Store could run you out of storage unless the 8 gig can be offloaded, erased, and reinserted into the camera in less than 8 minutes (worst case storage consumption), or you have more than 2 cards.

    Regards.

[Terry A. Davis] “Is is possible to stream output of DVCPRO 25, 50 or HD out to the P2 Store directly from the camera for long shoots over USB 2.0?”

I’ve heard yes, and I’ve heard no (both from Panasonic reps).
I think the best answer to this is that we should wait a few months and see.
These details are hard to sort out when the capabilities of the camera haven’t been set in stone yet.

The P2 Store is not that sort of device. It is a bit of a one-trick pony, perfectly suited to its killer app, the news market. The camera is the Shooter’s tool, the P2 Store is the reporter’s tool. There will be other devices that will work over a file transfer mode on USB or streaming on 1394.

    More later,

    [Jan Crittenden Livingston] “More later,”

Thanks, Jan (and Luis for your earlier response)! A great use of this forum is that those of us without unlimited budgets can get a sense of direction to help plot our future course(s). Keep it coming!

    Regards!
