  • possible to have longer than an hour of footage per DVD?

Some of my clients have had problems playing my DVDs when there is more than one hour of footage on the disk. This seems to vary based upon the DVD player they are using.

Is there any way to have up to 90 minutes on a DVD without creating problems during playback? I guess I don’t understand how there is often over 2 hours of material on Blockbuster-style DVDs, but you can’t go over an hour with DVD Architect without losing quality/performance. Probably just the difference in having professional-quality authoring software/hardware vs. consumer-grade stuff, eh?

I am currently shooting a 90 minute event and would prefer to avoid having to provide two DVDs to my customers. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

    FYI: I’m shooting in HDV 1080 (60i).

    Use dual layer DVDs.
If your bitrate is higher than 9Mbps or lower than 4Mbps, you run a significant risk of various players being entirely compatible with your discs/content.
It doesn’t matter what you’re shooting with, MPEG2 on an SD dvd is MPEG 2 on an SD dvd. Bitrate is about all that matters.

I routinely put 2 hours on a DVD with no issues. There *are* some problems with some players. There *are* some problems with some media.

Lower the bitrate appropriate for the length of your video and you can easily get 2 hours.

Stick with good quality media. (TY and Verbatim seem to be good)

Double check the player can handle burned media and what TYPE of burned media. (I use -R)
